Midnight on Fireworks Island is a hilarious yet deep and compelling tale. It starts simple and funny but when you turn the last page your life has changed. This book is Shawshank Redemption in that it is a story of an unbreakable friendship that develops in a dangerous prison/correctional academy.
It is a gripping story of two mischievous boys Joey and Figueroa sent to Rockweiler Academy for boys. Rockweiler is a correctional institute for kids too young to be in the main prison system.
The main characters of the story are two mischievous boys who met each other at Rockweiler Academy for boys. Rockweiler isn’t a facility of punishment, but of learning and correction. Rockweiler believes in making the boys learn rules instead of punishing them. Students are made aware about the cause and effect rule there.
Midnight on Fireworks Island by Christopher Nicholas Ciko is one such book. It hooked my attention till the last page.
The tale unfolds with a protagonist blessed with a unique, unheard “Voice” – Joseph Johnson, or Joey. Despite hearing the Voice’s answers, Joey rarely paid it heed.
“Midnight on Fireworks Island” is the first book by the author Christopher Ciko that I have read. Two naughty boys Joey and Figgy met at Rockweiler Academy for boys. Rockweiler isn’t a facility of punishment, but of learning and correction. Its main focus was on training boys so they could follow the rules.
Joey and Figgy are my favorite characters from the book. The author’s imagination is amazingly related to the concept of Rockweiler Academy.
This book is the perfect pick. Especially high school going teenagers and adults who go to college would enjoy this book the most. I am highly interested in exploring more books by Christopher in the future.
